Selfishness
Our introduction to the word typically goes: “Hey greedy person, save some of that for someone else, there’s not enough.”But what about the concept of “benevolent selfishness,” that is selfishness as a gift to others? Sound like an oxymoron? Not at all. When you drink a glass of wine or see a play, you see it thorough your eyes. You taste hints of oak or grass, you feel ecstasy or sadness. But is your experience and yours alone. You see it through your “self” and that is selfishness. For Law of Attraction enthusiasts, keen on the definition and application of Abundance, you know that you can only live life thorough your own experience, or personal lens.A well-known example is Madonna, the music artist and mogul. Madonna epitomizes the best of selfishness: intensely creative, astonishingly successful and a cathartic cultural influence. We benefitted. However, by the late-90s, something was eating Madonna. Interviews revealed a guilt-ridden Madonna, regretting her “selfishness.” Her creativity suffered, with the exception of the “Ray of Light” CD. She retreated to London, it seemed. Recently, I was tickled to see my views shared with Emily Nussbaum in New York magazine August 3rd, 2009. “The selfless Madonna is less inspiring than the selfish one in so many ways” states Nussbaum. We can only hope that returning to NY revives the selfish Madonna. What does this mean to you? You came here to create, too. You knew abundance: that is our birth right. Go for it. Do not allow anyone to cow or coerce you.Let’s face it: the only one calling you selfish is the selfish one who wants you to “do it my way.”Set the life example for others. Benevolent selfishness inspires everyone to be who they really are. And that would be a very nice Planet indeed.
